Wilderness Flyfishing

We provide a guiding service tailored to the needs of our guests.  I am very proud of my career in fly fishing and find that people enjoy being taught or guided by me.  I enjoy the communication process.  The guiding is always in beautiful places, usually utterly wild; including wilderness regions and areas of outstanding natural beauty.  Wilderness Flyfishing takes you to the wild lakes and rivers to fish the most aesthetic and effective methods in fly fishing.  And you will catch wild fish, while they still exist.

Whether you are a beginner wanting basic instruction, guiding, or an expert wanting to perfect a new technique, in casting, fishing or fly dressing: Contact us to arrange what you need.  Contact us here

tarn in the Howgill FellsWilderness Flyfishing provides everything from two hour lessons in casting for complete beginners to coaching in the hugely subtle and demanding presentation requirements of the most challenging trout and grayling.

We have a small tarn, set in wild country in the Howgill Fells, with brown trout and stocked with rainbows to provide year-round fishing.  This tarn is very lightly fished, ideal for observing trout exhibiting natural behaviour, and stalking with nymph and dry fly.  You will see a regular update of news from the tarn and other lakes nearby on our News page.

For the ultimate in utterly wild brown trout fishing in English lakes, see our web pages on the Pennine lakes, and the Lake DistrictThe centre of our activity is in Cumbria, in the Eden Valley, where we guide on several private lengths of river and beck throughout the system, but we also guide in several locations in the north of England and elsewhere in Europe, including north-west Slovenia, western Norway and the ultimate trout and grayling paradise of southern Poland. Wilderness Flyfishing can take you there.

Early morning; October on the San at Laczki

South-East Poland - We organise group, family or individual trips to the awesome trout and grayling fishing of the San River.  We fish the San almost year-round, though the group trips are organised from late May through to the end of October, in the wild and beautiful country of the Bieszczady National Park.  With local, English speaking guides, as well as Jeremy Lucas and Stuart Minnikin.  See our pages on Poland and the San River.

Slovenia, undoubtedly one of the most dramatically beautiful of all the countries of Europe still view of the Sava Bohinka from Clive Judge's lodgeprovides pristine rivers flowing off the view of Julian Alps from Lake BohinjJulian Alps, with grayling, wild rainbow trout, brown trout and the famous, rare marbled trout; all in possibly the clearest freshwater that exists on the planet.  Clive Judge is our host in Slovenia and he organises fishing with guides in the north-east of the country from his lodge on the banks of the glorious Sava Bohinka River.  If you are interested in a fishing visit to Slovenia we strongly recommend you stay with Clive and his family who provide full board and, really, a complete service for the flyfisher and accompanying families.  Talk to us and we'll put you in touch with Clive.

San River trout risingFor us, Wilderness Flyfishing is part of our fantastic journey.  You can get on with whatever journey you're on; or you can share this one with us.  Think about it; a few moments, hours maybe, as a waypoint in your journey, where you pause, fly rod in hand, with a fly running dry down a wild river and in a stolen flicker of time - sip - the fly is gone and you set the hook into a fish like this.

You won't just remember wilderness fishing, you'll live for it.
